KHNP wins project to supply nuclear power plant equipment in Romania

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP) has been selected as the final supplier of the nuclear amplifier and electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters for the Chernaboda nuclear power plant, which has been commissioned by the Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN) from Romania worth around 1 billion won.

In particular, this order marks the first time that KHNP has successfully localized itself and made inroads into foreign markets through research and development in cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises.

Chernaboda Nuclear Power Plant is a power plant operating in eastern Romania, a heavy water reactor like Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Korea.

The items will be used for the Chernaboda No.1 and No. 2 nuclear power plants, and the design and production of equipment and materials will be handled by Real Gain, a small South Korean company, and KHNP, which will handle the control. quality and verification of devices.

The corresponding articles were produced nationally by KHNP as part of a research project in collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises and were used by Wolseong reactors No. 1 to 4 to verify their performance and safety.

It is expected that a continued supply of these items will be made in the future, as regular replacement of these items is required. It should also have a positive impact on the selection of operators in which KHNP is preparing to participate in Romania, such as tritium disposal facilities and the construction of a waste storage tank.

In September last year, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced at a meeting of the Nuclear Energy Export Strategy Council that it would expand its export strategy to all stages of nuclear power plants and that it would promote the global industrialization of exports by strengthening the export capacities of small and medium-sized enterprises.

“We hope to achieve further results in the United States, Eastern Europe and Eastern Asia based on this achievement,” said Chairman Chung Jae-hoon of KHNP. “In particular, we will actively support technological development and exploration of foreign markets so that more small and medium-sized enterprises can enter foreign markets.
